SURKANDA TEMPLE

Surkanda Devi is a Hindus situated close to the small resort hamlet of Dhanaulti in the village Uniyal gaon of Tehri Distrct. It is at an altitude of about 3,030 metres, or 9976 ft lies close to nearby hill stations of Dhanaulti (8 km) and Chamba (22 km)walking distance of approx 3 km from Kaddukhal, the place where vehicles are parked.According to legendary belief, Sati's head was dropped here. When Raja Daksh organized a yagna in Kankhal, he did not call Lord Shiva in it. But even after refusing Shiva, Sati went to Yagna. She was not respected like other deities. As angry with her husband's insult and selfishness, Sati Yagna jumped into the trunk. On this, Sati's Shiva started hanging in the trisool, while the Sati's Sir Surakut fell on the mountain. From then onwards, the place was known as Surkunda Devi Siddhpith.
